Paddock Art Studios
exhibition begins this Saturday

Paddock Art Studios Artwave PosterThis Saturday the 24th August 2013 is the opening of the Paddock Art Studios exhibitions as part of the Artwave festival in Lewes, East Sussex, England.

The Artwave festival is the Lewes district’s huge annual arts festival spreading from and including Ditchling, Firle, Chailey, Seaford and Newhaven as well as the town of Lewes. It brings together the best established and emerging artists from across the region and takes place in a variety of venues, beginning 24th August and finally closing on Sunday 8th September 2013. The Artwave website is www.artwavefestival.org

The Paddock Art Studios are owned and run by the Lewes and District Visual Arts Association (The LADVAA, which I became a member of in February 2013) and is situated at The Paddock Art Studios, Paddock Lane, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 1TW.

The exhibition at the Paddock Art Studios will take place first, beginning on August 24th and then shortly after the end of the exhibition on September 8th there will be an auction of some smaller works which will help the LADVAA raise funds for the upkeep and maintenance of the building which is now more than 200 years old.

The Studios were originally built during the late 1700's as a stable block for the Haywards Heath stagecoach company. By 1946 the building had become derelict, but was purchased by a Cecil Heathfield who was an Art Adviser for the local Lewes area. He later turned the building it into a studio and gallery, but after his death in 1969, the building was once again abandoned. It wasn't owned again until a committee of trustees joined forces and formed the Lewes and District Visual Arts Association, who still own and manage the building to this day.

The three paintings that I will be displaying during the exhibition are:

A woman stepping out of a car
A woman wearing a pink dress and her skirt blowing up in the wind
How To Make A Man Blush!

and the three smaller paintings that will be going under the hammer are:

A tiny man running down a woman's leg and foot
Run Along Now!
A shrunken man standing in a woman's court shoe
I'm In Her Shoes
A woman kicking her shoes off and putting her feet up
Put Your Feet Up!

The exhibition opens on the 24th August 2013 and is open on the following dates thereafter 25th August, 26th August and 31st August and then on the 1st September, 7th September and 8th September.
Opening times are between 11:00am to 5:00pm on each of those dates above. Entry is free and all of my works of art will be for sale.

You will also be able to meet me personally along with the artist Martin Bentley, at the Paddock Art Studios on Monday 26th August, which is the Summer Bank Holiday, between 2pm and 5pm.

The Paddock Art Studio's auction will take place on either the 7th or 8th of December 2013 at The Paddock Art Studios, Paddock Lane, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 1TW. Details are still being planned, but I will update this as soon as they are confirmed. In addition to the auction, a table top sale will also be set up to exhibit smaller sculptural works along along with an exhibition of medium to small original canvas artworks that will all be for sale.

The Paddock Art Studios exhibition was a great success with over 1000 people attending it during the two weeks of the Lewes district's Artwave festival.
I would like to say a big 'Thank You!' to all of those of you that came on Monday 26th August. I met with more than 100 people overall and from whom gained a variety of new ideas. I am proud to say that from this show alone I have made many new friends, many more fans and supporters and once again with to thank everyone who attended this exhibition during the two weeks that it was open.

Unfortunately although many people attended the Paddock Art Studios exhibition throughout the couple of weeks beginning Saturday 24th August 2013 in Lewes, East Sussex, nearly all of the artworks went unsold. This included the paintings above Making An Entrance, How To Make A Man Blush! and The Life of The Shrunken Man, which have all now been taken back and put up for sale again through this site. If you wish to know more or are interested in purchasing the painting, do please email me at legavthorpe@ymail.com.
